At last, a free Saturday!

It is DECEMBER. I CANNOT HAVE A COLD* wtf body.

*gulps down cinnamon black tea, sullenly*

I am also listening to my CD of worship songs from years and years ago when I went to youth group every Friday night and spent hours singing in the band. Literally hours. It was fantastic. As I believe I said recently, music has always, always been the thing that makes me feel the most spiritual, and even though I no longer adhere to most of the tenets of the Anglican faith, my love for the music hasn't changed. (And I don't regret any of it; partly because I honestly believe it was one of the best things to happen within my teenage years, and partly because I don't really do regrets.)

~

People should be obnoxious and elitist with me in comments. About anything. I am in that kind of mood. Just stare at the awesome icon that Imry made for a while and see if you don't feel Incensed To Wank. Rant at me about the morons in your fandom of choice! Etcetera!

*I feel I should hasten to point out that I do not feel like I have a torso peppered full of shot, as my mood theme would have you believe. My sinuses are just rebelling against me.

ETA: Because Ji is efficient like that, the Milliways version of the love meme is happening in the back room! Go forth! Spew love!

I don't think I hate any people as much as I hate weather gods. Like, to the degree that even California is not acceptably warm to me anymore. And because I hate humidity, that means it's Arizona or bust.

You really are screwed, aren't you? I would suggest northern Oz, but it's humid. Maybe central Oz. Which is, pretty much, Arizona.

BSG FANDOM IS SO DUMB AND ENIRELY WITHOUT TASTE.

It makes me want to CRY. And oppress them. A lot.

I think the problem is that awesome people like Brynn are not prolific enough for that part of fandom that considers a mark of good fic to be SHEER VOLUME and POSTING EVERY OTHER DAY.

[identity profile] whatimages.livejournal.com 2006-12-09 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well you should post more fic so at least not everything will suck (HINT HINT :p)

You know who I hate? RICHARD DAWKINS. "La la la, I am an atheist and that makes me special! Holy wars are bad, let me start one!" He is exactly the kind of hypocrite he is preaching against and just because he finds innate beauty in physics (and so do I) doesn't mean everyone does, so hurting spiritualism with hammers is a DICKWAD thing to do.

I try to tone this down, because it is RICHARD DAWKINS and I am an agnostic and on some level we are allied (I agree with most of his spiritual attitudes, I'm a naturalist reductionist existentialist agnostic an' all) but his POLITICS and his MORALS and auuuuugh.

That is so interesting! I am meaning to borrow 'The God Delusion' from a friend soon, because I haven't read any of his stuff.

[identity profile] unravels.livejournal.com 2006-12-09 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
So, people. Have you ever witnessed a fandom where the writers who seem to get tons of adoration are REALLY, REALLY BAD at taking these compliments? And, in keeping with the elitist-and-obnoxious theme, often write REALLY, REALLY BAD stories? I wouldn't have a problem with encouraging developing writers if they just accepted it gracefully, but it seems like more often they have to respond with something about how they know they're just brilliant, and SO many people are clamoring for their stories they don't know WHAT to write next, and then they post a poll asking what are people most desperate to see from them, and then everyone gives them exactly what they asked for. And round and round we go.

Sometimes I think 'I should sit down and give them considered concrit, to help them grow', but then I realise that my voice would an ANOMALY and really, what kind of writer wants to pay attention to one person saying YOU KIND OF SUCK when the majority is saying OMG WRITE MORE PLZ?

Fandom is full of self-propogating shit.

iosdfjslkd, YES. I am thinking of a particular example here who made me SCREEAAAAM with her overall REALLY, REALLY BAD-ness, but on general principle, YES.

You know how every place in the metropolis of Los Angeles looks the same? And how all of it's absolute trash? And how people talk about the place like it's some kind of dreamland where all their wishes will come true?

I fucking hate that.

[identity profile] samael-diablo.livejournal.com 2006-12-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
America in general hurts my sense of surface aesthetics. Luckily, it has other redeeming qualities, but no wonder it turns out ugly souls.

[identity profile] pirateygoodness.livejournal.com 2006-12-09 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
There are just. . .the ships themselves are not bad per se. And they work. But there are a couple of Serious OTPs that just seem to draw a certain type of shipper that goes "my god, those two would be hot if they hooked up for a weekend - ergo, they would also totally fall in love and have thousands of babies. YES. LET'S WRITE THAT."

*buries face in hands*

[identity profile] pirateygoodness.livejournal.com 2006-12-09 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
It *was* Meredith/Derek, back in S2 when they weren't together. Now it seems to be some of Mark/Addison. and some of the newer Addison/Alexes I've read have been veering in that direction. They're not hard to find, if you do a quick browse of some of the fic comms.

I am kind of late to the party, but I am going to hate on SCHOOL, and having no frakking TIME to watch all this nifty TV that my flist is loving on. I have Doctor Who 2005 on Denmark the External HD to watch over winter break, but I am honestly getting sick of only being able to do fandomy things during my vacation time. Which is only four out of twelve months total. AFJDKASL;FJD;AS FRUSTRATION.

I promise to write you BSG fic once I get caught up on it, though~ ♥

I hate BAD BOOKS. I just. I'm offended by the fact that they exist. I've been spoiled by all the Milliways-canons I've been pimped, possibly. Every book in the last year or so that I've bought without any prior recommendation has been BAD. The blurb is awesome, and a cursory scan of a few random pages reveals a basic grasp of the English language, and then... the books are BAD.

WHY IS THIS KIND OF THING ALLOWED.

[identity profile] unravels.livejournal.com 2006-12-10 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And then you're left wondering how the hell these people got those books published, or how someone actually read this trash and thought it was worth binding, and making cover art, and putting on shelves in stores where innocent readers could actually find them. Especially when there are so many worthy authors who are struggling to even get their stuff read by a publisher.
