*cracks knuckles*

By the end of this weekend I am going to know everything about disease. Just watch me.

No chatting. No RPing. No leisurely surfing of LJ. No going around Snap Cupping everyone (sorry!). That said, I will be checking my flist and email every couple of hours, so if you feel like brightening the day of an exceedingly stressed student...leave me something? Drabble. Icon. Quote. mp3. Silly link. Cheerful message about how I am not going to fail. That kind of thing.

Because crossing things off brings joy to my heart. Watch this space!

Hmm. Any RPF drabble requests? I'm having way too much fun with those. :)

Ooh. Cast & cocktails! I love cocktails. Silly umbrellas and bright colours and bizarre mixtures of alcohol.

Oooh. I think I have a hook for it now, and will open up Word once I reboot.

BTW, if you're jonesing, trinnifer and indigo posted some drabbles on my RPF post last night, including indi's insanely hot threesome ficlet (http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/622284.html?thread=11267020#t11267020). Guh.

(I can never write the cast party scenario without it turning into a huge cliche. So, this one became a "girls night out" thing. It's getting a bit long, so I'll post the rest of it a little later. Hope you like it!)

Grace knew something was up when Kerry appeared without the girls and with a very large shopping bag. "You're done filming for the day, right?"

She nodded. "You got it?"

"Right. I'll get everything set up while you go round up the usual suspects." Kerry grinned then disappeared inside the trailer.

Twenty minutes later, she and Katee arrived to find Kerry staring at the TV, lips curled into a smirk. "You actually TiVo Oprah?"

Grace tried like hell not to blush. "Hey, she's taught me a lot about myself!"

Once the laughter died down, she caught sight of all the bottles and pitchers piled on the kitchenette. "Uh, exactly how much booze did you bring?"

Kerry held up the homemade DVD of her husband on Celebrity Poker. "Trust me. We'll need it."

+++++

Katee twirled the pink paper umbrella in her fingers as the introductions began and Jamie's face flashed across the screen. "C'mon, he doesn't look so bad. Too many buttons open, okay, but the black's pretty good –"

The three of them gasped as the camera panned over his whole body.

"Oh."

Kerry groaned. "Not my fault, I'll have you know. I packed his black loafers and even laid them out specially in the hotel. I suspect he snuck those dreadful white trainers in the girls' diaper bag when I wasn't looking."

"I wouldn't put it past him. He can be a sneaky bastard, but he think he's being funny." Katee took a long sip of her mojito and thought about how he'd slipped ice cubes under her shirt while they were filming one of the New Caprica flashbacks last week, then laughed and darted away before she could retaliate. How that smirk on his face had made her shiver more than the ice did. Sneaky. Yeah.

She took an even longer sip this time.

"Hey, Grace?" Kerry set down her glass. "Could your husband give mine some wardrobe lessons? He always looks gorgeous."

Grace just rolled her eyes. "Years of training, babe."

Sometimes Katee wished she weren't single. Sometimes.

+++++

"How does this game work, anyway?"

Kerry poked Katee. "I thought you were the poker expert."

"Hey, I just play one on TV."

Another round of drinks – cosmopolitans this time – and Kerry was already feeling a very nice buzz. She settled back on the sofa and listened to the others talk about work. It used to bother her, bring out her jealous streak, but not so much anymore. She loved her children and her husband. She loved family life. But she missed her girlfriends back in London. Nights like this were good for that. Fruity drinks and girl talk made everything better.

"FOLD!"

They whipped around to stare at Katee, who blinked then started laughing. "Hey, even I could tell he had a crappy hand."

Grace raised her glass in a toast. "To men: Might as well stick a blindfold on 'em, because they can never tell when they're completely screwed."

Kerry flashed back to last Saturday night, and grinned. "Sometimes they like it that way."

She winked.

Grace was so caught up in a very important shoe discussion that she almost missed the catcall. She hushed the others, then rewound the DVD. "Okay, did that woman just call out, 'C'mon, Towel Boy!'"

It took the three of them several minutes to stop laughing long enough to check the recording, and as much as she'd prefer to think otherwise, the audience member had, in fact, called him "Hot Boy".

Grace shrugged. "She got it right, at least. Too bad about the towel, though. One of my greatest regrets is that I wasn't on set for that scene."

"I was standing there right behind him. Mighty nice view." Katee didn't bother to hide her grin.

"I love him dearly, but Jamie does have a bit of an exhibitionist streak." Kerry poured some rum into her coke. "Can't quite blame him for it, though, given how hard he worked for that body. You should've seen him when he met."

"That bad, huh?"

"God, no. Just different. Softer, like a student. I love him like this, of course, but I do miss that body I fell in love with."

That made Grace think about her own husband, how he seemed to have gone in reverse. "Softer" was a good way to describe it, but not in a bad way. Still tall and lean, with long arms that wrapped around her while they slept. When he was in one of his rare romantic moods, Phil liked to say that they'd made their mark on each other. She could see a little of Jamie in his wife. She wondered how Katee would change if she ever got married.

Something coiled tightly in her belly, and she had to take a long sip of her drink to tamp it down. Only two more days until he got back from New York. Two days that suddenly felt a lot longer.

Jamie didn't last much longer. Bad for the charity, yeah, but great for Katee. She listened to the announcer and planned all the things she'd tease him with tomorrow. He sat on the sofa and swirled the champagne in his glass; she froze when she realized she was doing the exact same thing. Whoops.

She'd gotten better at that whole ... thing. Having his wife around definitely helped. And besides, it was just proof that she really, really needed to find herself another boyfriend.

The wife in question shushed Grace and said, "You don't want to miss this."

They all leaned forward and heard the host make some quip about masturbation, to which Jamie replied, "That's not true!"

Whoa.

It'd make her blush if she weren't laughing so hard. Kerry gave a dramatic sigh and said, "Don't worry. I've made my peace with it. He's a gorgeous man, but he is a man, after all. I suspect he gets up to all sorts of things in the shower. And I'm certain he stars in many a woman's fantasies, too."

"Not mine," Katee insisted. Well, not lately.

"I've had some interesting dreams about him." Off their startled looks, Grace continued, "C'mon, it wasn't on purpose or anything. Phil was out of town, and I was asleep! I swear, I spend way too much time on this set. I don't even wanna think about where my brain's going to go tonight."

Katee checked Kerry's reaction, but she just smiled and nodded. Hmm. That was good, though, she supposed. Sign of a great marriage if she didn't feel threatened by women fantasizing about her husband. And that made Katee happy for them, it really did.

Grace nudged her shoulder. "I've checked out the internet a few times. Wanna know what all the fanboys are saying about you, Starbuck? Not to mention all the stuff about you and Apollo."

She choked on her rum-and-coke, and as the others laughed, she flashed back to filming that makeout scene with Jamie. Definitely a good memory. But still – guys fantasizing about her? Okay, she knew about it. She wasn't that naïve. She just wasn't sure whether that was flattering or really weird.

"Please. It's the guns and cigars – geeks love that. And anyway, they're too busy fantasizing about you and Tricia."

"Together?" Kerry quipped, and that set off another round of laughter.

+++++

Mojitos, cosmopolitans, and rum added up to three very drunk women, none of whom had any business driving. Only thing to do was ring up Jamie and have him pick them up while the nanny was home with the girls.

He measured them up from the SUV's driver's seat. "I don't even want to know." And he didn't say another word as they dropped off Katee and Grace.

Twenty minutes later, they pulled into the driveway. He killed the ignition and held out a hand. "I want that DVD. Now."

"What?" Kerry battered her lashes, but she knew she looked ridiculous.

"Last thing I need is for you to have another viewing party while you and your friends make jokes about me all night."

He sounded more amused than irritated, but she had five years' experience with making him forgive her. So she leaned in for one long kiss, then another. Breathless and still a little tipsy, she muttered, "You know you love it."

"Yeah, right." But he gave her another quick kiss before getting out of the car. She followed him inside, laughing the whole way.

this is lovely! especially them gasping at his trainers. :0) I loved the way each of them evaluates herself in relation to Jamie, and the poor lad is oblivious to all the havoc he's causing.
