in defense of academia

*weeps*

Computers are bad for my health. Bad. I am spending the majority of my days staring at a screen trying to pull research together or sound coherent and my back and wrists are aching, and I am nowhere near on top of my assignments.

How-EVAH, I did have a two-hour swing lesson last night and I got to dance with the guy who looks like Jake Gyllenhaal and the intermediate class has started to learn some fun turns and dips and things, and we warm up by doing swing-Charleston RILLY RILLY FAST and it's awesome.

And in complete defiance of the first point above: I have discussed my new laptop with the guy that my dad hires to handle all of the family computer stuff, who is full of helpful advice and the ability to get the latest IBM laptop very cheaply because he gets the ones used as display sets during the IBM roadshow, and who can transfer all of my files from one hard disk to the other. The new laptop will have a 60GB hard disk, 1GB of RAM and a DVD drive/burner.

He will be called Fabian.

In even geekier news, the Co-op was having a sale and I picked up, for the grand total of $9.80, a book about the race to discover the etiological agent of the Black Death, and another called The Encyclopedia of Plague & Pestilence, which is thick and shiny and covers every major human epidemic in history. DENGUE. INFLUENZA. WEST NILE. CHOLERA. OMG.

That reminds me.

I need to name my new computer once I get it.

Did he also talk to imaginary people in bunny suits?

I think swing dancing is cool, it's like judo for pacifists.
