fahye: (STUDY HELL)
Fahye ([personal profile] fahye) wrote2006-04-15 12:37 pm

I'd like my sense of taste back, please

Dying. Dying. Have become the dreaded globmonster from the black lagoon. Going through tissues and cups of blackcurrant tea at a ridiculous rate.

All remaining brain cells able to function at a level higher than "blahughhwhut?" are being mustered and poured into assignments/exam study, so I won't be around much, but I hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend. Eat some chocolate for me. Sing something nice with your vocal cords that actually work. Go and read Claira's fic, which has given me a stupid sappy grin.

And so I have something non-academic to do in my next study break - ask me a question about anything at all, and I'll answer honestly. With the normal caveat regarding questions that I consider to be totally out of line, but whatever, you lot are hardly the heartless paparazzi. And I'm happy to answer questions about the bizarre way in which my girlfriend is being told to give birth pretty much anything.

This is totally the most appropriate icon ever, thank you Kelsey.

Ugh, illness! Feel better!

Question: Who is your most favourite fictional character ever?

[identity profile] strange-selkie.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
*koff* overwork *koff*

[identity profile] hobviously.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
What is your preferred alcoholic concoction?

[identity profile] littledust.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
You are quite welcome. *grins*

What are the best fic trends you've seen lately? The worst? (Yes, I get to ask two questions.)

[identity profile] kcdl.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Get better soon mate.

Question: What is the meaning of life? No seriously, what is it?

What's something that you consider important to your development and/or the way that you conceptualize yourself which I don't know yet?

What do you think is your most interesting quality?

*starts with this one, as it is fun and requires less Deep Thought* I've only been legal for a year and a bit and I've never really been a big drinker, so I haven't tried a lot of alcoholic concoctions.

It depends in a large way on my mood, but my favourites are never really complex. Baileys and milk. Malibu and lemonade.

If I have to pick only one...gin and tonic. I looooove gin and tonic.

Subjective. But also incidental.

Ji could probably describe it better, but...I don't come down as either a pure rationalist or a romantic. I have a very rational/pragmatic approach to most things but at the same time I look at things aesthetically. I am far too sick to find the proper words for this. Um. I like structure, and science, and logic, but I can't stop looking for the beauty in messy abstract words and pictures and situations.

It has taken me about half an hour to write this because I am watching I Heart Huckabees and it's amazingly distracting.

JI, M'AIDEZ!

That just may be the best and toughest question ever.

Because clearly I can't have told you everything, but sometimes it feels like I have :) I'll go with something that isn't very big or profound, and try and think of something better.

I think that being a completely self-confident, intelligent, arrogant little shit as a child may have been a blessing in terms of where I am now. Because it never crossed my mind that I couldn't do anything or be anything. These days I try to be ruthless in not overestimating myself and I sometimes worry if that isn't a peculiar form of self-sabotage.

OK, OK. In my words, Fahye is the strangest person I have ever met, because sometimes she is a Romantic and sometimes she is a Realist and therefore she escapes definition.

She enjoys cynicism, but she tends to portray even ugliness aesthetically. It's like she views the world through a beautiful filter, and everything glows with life and tangents and wonder, until you realize that it's actually Venetian blinds and you are FALLING INTO THE DARK PIT OF HER REALISM. And there is just no warning.

Ummm, hm.

It is the most interesting blend ever, for surely. It's like -- it's like true love laced with cyanide.

. . .

It occurs to me that this is possibly not a flattering description, although I really mean it to be.

[identity profile] kcdl.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's what always say (the subjective bit anyway), but I just wanted to know your opinion. If I want to piss people off I say the meaning of life is to have lots of babies. Then I proceed to mouth-off about the evils of contraception and sex before marriage. Then I cap it off by smiting people....

...and people say I have god complex *HA!*

I so don't read enough fic for this question but, uh.

BEST: By and large, people are quick to realise that there are things that fandom Does Not Like (Mary Sues, lack of ability to take concrit gracefully, etc.) and they learn from their early mistakes. Speaking BSG-wise, most of the people in my corner of fandom know how to push each other's buttons fic-wise. Non-stop angst can be done very well. PWPs can be done very well. There is more talent out there than one would think.

WORST: People want their fic to be seen now, so they do no more than a cursory edit before posting. Or they write a very short chapter, and then post, and then wait for comments, and then write another...personally, I could never post a multi-parter before it was ALL finished, or at least exhaustively planned. Which is why I tend to write very long one-shots. Um. People think 'AU' means 'I can edit out the bits I personally disliked about this person's backstory/canon and then write a self-indulgent version of events'. Or they sacrifice character conflict and realistic flaws on the altar of getting their OTP to have lots of sex and schmoop as soon as possible.

I know, isn't it? I threw it at Caleb too and he cried like a girl. Admittedly, I wouldn't be quite sure how to handle it myself without warning.

Tit for tat:

As I told Caleb (when explaining this question), I am my family's Death Baby. That is to say: I had a cousin Robert who died very young -- as in 10 or younger -- of cancer. The day of his funeral was the day that my parents found out for sure they were pregnant. Therefore I'm "special" to his mother. (Although, she would want me to add, she loves my siblings mucho.)

It is also worth noting that my parents previously had thought that they could not conceive, and had been considering adoption. Also that they were afraid to share their good news because it seemed inappropriate and ill-timed.

And this is a story I grew up with.

YOUR TURN. Same question!

That is a horrible question and I am at my parents' house without my shelf full of beloved books to help me answer it. Uuuum. You get a shortlist of ones that spring to mind right now.

Mike Carey's Lucifer.
...Kara Thrace :D
Viola from Twelfth Night.
Eponine from the Les Miserables musical. Not book. Musical.
Dr. Gregory House. Heh.
Susan Sto Helit.

Actually, if we want to go with my favourite fictional character for my entire childhood: Robin Hood. Absobloodylutely.

[identity profile] izumihydra.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
i would to some extent agree with this, except in person you come across as much MORE of a cynical realist than in your writing.
The one exception, that Stooty and I were talking about the other day, is that you always assume we (Stuart and I) will be together forever, like it's inevitable. And while of course that is our intention, it's still very romantic of you to see it - and discuss it publicly - the way you do. So I'm glad we're not the only ones to have noticed that contradiction!

Malibu and lemonade.

HOMG. Firefly drinking game, New Year's Eve (only with Bacardi, wot). PINK AND DELCIOUS!

Well :D I have no reason whatsoever to believe otherwise, do I? You're two of my best friends. I am Officially Invested.

Cynicism is my general default, but I am not going to ignore feasible and adorable love when it is staring me in the face.

I love Viola! Oh Twelfth Night. And House is such a delightful bastard :)

Robin Hood! I was more of a King Arthur girl myself, but YAY BRITISH FOLK TALES.
