Dear Santa: I would like a house.

Housing situation = going from bad to worse.

Fuck.

(There'd be no problem if it was just me, I could easily move back home or rent a granny flat or something and live by myself, which I would love, but there is the matter of aforementioned housemate Q. I'm not leaving her to fend for herself. But it's just us, now, and you can't get good rental housing for two people at anything approaching affordable rates.)

Fuck fuck fuck. I'm just starting my summer research project and I have things that I have to plan and choreograph and write and I was really looking forward to this summer, you know? It was going to be relaxing.

Bitch, whine, moan, etc.

That really sucks. Whereabouts are you looking and at what price range? I'll keep a lookout on the intarwebs when I'm looking at real estate myself.

We're hoping to pay $100 or so a week in rent, but that's just not going to be possible, I think. Guh. Somewhere close to ANU would be best, or within a short bus ride - I don't mind long rides, but Q gets motion sickness on buses and she doesn't have a car, so the shorter the trip into Civic the better.

[identity profile] not-in-denial.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeahhh...the cheapest results for a two-bedroom place ANYWHERE in the ACT are all 230, 240, 250...There could be a problem here.

I found a couple though:

http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&s=act&c=84096063&tm=1133783669&id=401881825&f=0&p=10&t=ren&ty=&snf=rbs&ag=&cu=&fmt=&header= in Lyons for 220pw

http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&s=act&c=84096063&tm=1133783669&id=401808972&f=0&p=10&t=ren&ty=&snf=rbs&ag=&cu=&fmt=&header= and again in Lyons for 235pw.

They're all supposed to be close to Woden plaza, and it's only a short bus ride from Woden to the ANU.

They all look ideal, apart from that tiny niggling detail where we're 19 year olds and not exactly much with the owning of furniture/whitegoods. There'd be an immense inital expense just to give us enough furniture and cooking/washing appliances to get by.

*sneaks in again*

Okay so I noticed you wanted furnished places...hmm. These were the only two not-in-Queanbeyan ones I found:

http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=spr&p=61530

http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=spr&p=61434

I've no idea where either of them are, though o.o

*spammity*

What I mean by that is, I don't know where the suburbs are. My geography-fu is weak.

Griffith and Turner are both excellent, central locations.

Ergo: the rent for units like that will be staggeringly vast. Le sigh.

[identity profile] not-in-denial.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They turned up on a search for things under 250pw, but that doesn't mean a lot. It might be worth a phone call though.

They turn up on any search because they don't have a listed rental price. But there's nothing in Turner below about $330 or so, really. It's smack bang next to Civic.

$100 EACH. To clarify.

[identity profile] izumihydra.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
i'm sorry mcfrarsie!! i would love to join you, i really would, but financially it just isn't a possibility right now. there are lots of quite nice 2 bedroom places for around $250 on allhomes, mostly semi-furnished - ie. kitchen - and a little further out, ie. curtin or bruce. i'm sure everything will be ok, and know if you need stuff i'll do my best to help you guys.

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
We kind of NEED furnished. And the cheapest is a place in O'Connor at $270, which...I'm sure my parents would grumble but pay my half, but I really don't think she could pay that and bills and food and other expenses *winces*

Oh dear. What happened to moving in with Erin? Problems?
I can't help you much with a house hunt, I'm afraid, as I'm utterly inexperienced with the process. I'd also offer myself up for legwork, but I'm going to be horribly busy until I leave for WA. After the 9 of Jan, maybe? You have lots and lots of sympathy though, and even more luck.

*swims around internet a bit*
Look, you could live near me! (http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=spr&p=61806)

Honestly I think you may need another housemate to join you. How about advertising, like the ones we always see? It'd be a good opportunity to meet someone new, and there'll be lots of people looking for accomodation at the moment.

Around $200...*hmmms* I'm emailing my Dad. Not that he can play Santa or anything, but he has much more experience in dealing with real estate. Hopefully he can help.

I really don't like the idea of moving in with someone we don't know. Really. No. My parents are against it too.

:D Nice place, but one too many bedrooms and a little overpricey for us.

[identity profile] ryokophoenix.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Bah. Bah I say, but no, thats reasonable. Makes things harder, but its reasonable. :D

But think of all the money you'd save on petrol when you make me drive you! XD

...Erin?

Due to personal reasons that I'm not going to bandy about on LJ, Nick won't be able to move out next year and he doesn't want her to move out without him. I am pushing the fact that it WOULD most likely only be for a year and then we'd be able to find someplace larger if need be. But it doesn't look promising.

I won't see you before my party, will I?

[identity profile] ryokophoenix.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*blinks* Alrighty then, shall keep nose out. :D I'll see what Papi says before I say anymore because - inexperienced. Will lead you down dark and incorrect paths, and so forth.

Er, no. As I am excruciatingly busy, and all that. Painful, really, but what can you do? What's up?

Oh, nothing, I can just explain everything to you when I see you, is all. I'd get onto GTalk but I think I'ma go sleep now.
