OMG NEIL GAIMAN BLING BLING
OMFG
*hyperventilates*
Yeah, I'll squeal properly under a cut, but I would like to note for the world to see that Neil Gaiman, the master himself:
a) told me, ME ME ME, where he got the idea for 'Murder Mysteries' from and how he wrote it
b) blithely, in front of a lecture theatre full of fans, used the words 'messy sex scenes' in direct relation to Aziraphale and Crowley
Dot points of giddy randomness:
* We turned up very early and ended up camped outside the lecture theatre for yonks generally having a grand old geeky time, rambling about HBP and comics and manga and Gaiman in general.
tairamika drew a gorgeous picture of Aziraphale for him. We ate chocolate. We giggled. It was fun.
* The lecture itself consisted of some discussion of Mirrormask and the trailer/promotional snippets from it, a reading from his new novel Anansi Boys, general hilarious rambling about watching dead Muppets disintegrate and nice Brazilian fans threatening to riot and GUH the man is just so adorably funny and friendly. There was also a short Q&A with the audience, during which he managed to express his opinion that once something is written it is entirely open to anyone's choice of interpretation, but he is vaguely alarmed by 'fans who come up to me and tell me that Terry and I didn't write Good Omens properly because the book is obviously all about the grand love of Crowley and Aziraphale and we mistakenly left out all of their messy sex scenes - but there is a truly vast amount of fan works making up for this on the web'.
We laughed for rather longer than the rest of the room.
* He said that he thought Canberra was obviously Aboriginal for 'Milton Keynes', which made every GO fan in the room beam like an idiot.
* I had three things signed - Smoke & Mirrors, Good Omens and Sandman 4 (Season of Mists) - all in lovely purple pen with my name <3 He was beautifully friendly, asked me how I was, and when I gathered up my courage and told him how much I loved 'Murder Mysteries' he told me that it was the only story of his that has sprung from a single image - a silver pavement with a dead angel lying on it - and how he wrote forward and backwards from that image and how he didn't know who had committed the murder until he had almost finished the story, and that it was something that had to be written simply because no one had written it yet.
And I smiled and nodded and made worshipful noises and went away feeling insanely happy.
*And then we went to Starbucks and sat around being fangirls.
Life is grand.

No, really. I read your post outside the cut, screamed, got up from my chair, ran in a few bouncy circles (still screaming) and sat down again. And then I read the rest.
I'm going to have to stop with the screaming soon because my throat is starting to hurt. But. That is SO. FANTASTIC.
:D :D :D!!!!!
