scattered thoughts after the fact

And now I have time to catch my breath and say the things I meant to say yesterday; no helping life, I suppose. I'd make a reference to ka here but I fear an infuriatingly small fraction of the people who read this journal have read the Dark Tower books and will be able to nod wisely/squee in an embarrassing manner with me. Get onto it! Immediately! You'll thank me later!

My love to everyone affected by the events in London, or with loved ones affected by it. From the scale of what happened, it's amazing there weren't more deaths. Small mercies. The two school friends I was worried about are both safe, and although there is a small chance some of my cousins could have been in London I think we would have heard from my aunt by now if something was wrong. I was also amazed and touched at the speed and depth of the response on LiveJournal - people opening their journals for messages of goodwill, offers of help to fellow bloggers stuck in the city, the communities and channels of communication opened up in response to the phone system downtime... Let it never be said that the Internet is a purely self-serving environment.

[livejournal.com profile] crazylittleme, I hope you had an enjoyable birthday amid the madness :) I will be churning out this crossover fic as fast as I can, so consider that a delayed present.

I have discovered a practical use for my two-inch-platform, five-inch-heel kneehigh laceup boots! Canberra has apparently forgotten the whole 'drought' thing and remembered the 'crap winter weather' and it is pissing down rain, so walking to and from campus today for a choir committee meeting involved much trotting smugly through puddles with my feet safely elevated from the wet.

I would like to take this opportunity to adore [livejournal.com profile] villainny some more, and pimp this thread here as possibly some of the finest RP I've had the pleasure of taking part in. It took us twelve hours, with breaks and frequent pauses to scrape our jaws off the ground. Aziraphael (yes, yes, different spelling, get over it) and Lucifer discuss Crowley's sort-of-death, Adam, Raguel and the politics of the Silver City, argue the moral and theological implications of trusting in the Ineffable Plan, and finally bring the subject of Moriel into the open. Nny and I quote poetry and Gaiman and my own created backstory. Mad props also to [livejournal.com profile] darthrami and [livejournal.com profile] unravels, because this plot is going to be amazing.

(Hint for those reading the thread and unaccustomed to the Milliways mindset: if you see a missed line

like this, highlight it! Whitetext is the new black. Text. Thing. Anyway. No, there isn't any there. Because my LJ has a black background, that's why.)

Finished The Drawing of the Three, and am half-considering the idea of just running out and buying the next volume, and then the next, and the next... I haven't been so caught by a series since I discovered the Discworld. I repeat. Stephen King's Dark Tower - you need it, and you need it now.

3,000 words into my latest 10,000 word project, which is an entirely bizarre crossover that is, as per usual, the fault of someone else. One day people will stop bunnying me enticingly and I'll get something original written.

But this is not that day!

That thread is amazing... I went back and reread it today, and it still just makes me all *...jawdrop*. I'm sure this won't be the last time I go back to it. There are about a thousand things I discovered I wanted Raguel to say to both of them, but I'm sure a lot of it will never come out because he is a stubborn bastard. Still, it was inspiring. :D And I was a reader for long enough to know I'd have been captivated even if I'd never heard of MM.

Also, I've read all the DT books up to the last couple of chapters of the last one. I can't seem to quite work up the guts. Maybe this week...
