sentence meme

Posting a favourite sentence from all of my works in progress, blah blah blah.

In the Court of Cloaks and Daggers - The boy’s lips formed a disquieting smile, and he stood frozen against the cool bricks.

angelfoodcake - Is it just me, or does your halo look tarnished?

Goddesses Don't Wear Black - It was a particularly lurid shade of pink and looked – and tasted – like what you would get if you condensed a small girl’s birthday party into alcohol and served it with ice and various candied fruits.

Pandora and the Devil - LSD, speed, speed of a speed, though I’m known for pride, which is stubborn, which – if anything – is slow.

Quindlemire - Ceigo shot the blond thief a look of pure venom, vowing that such an insult against his position would one day be punished by much more than just kicking, and then attempted to convey to the old woman in increasingly desperate sign language that there was no way he was going inside such a dirty, seedy-looking place.

Blood Casino - Ashe’s cane shone maliciously under the reddened lights – it was black and silver and looked like something that could have been mail-ordered from Armani’s Deadly Weapons department.

Raising Excalibur - It wasn’t fair, Breanna thought, slashing at the air savagely, that the rightful bearer of such a magnificent weapon should be a young king who had done nothing to deserve it other than be born under the right stars.

How to be a Hero in Ten Easy Steps - Rio groaned and threw himself backwards onto the soft green grass that grew on the river bank, laying one arm across his face to shield his eyes from the sun and the sight of Karli, who was now busy trying to find a clean finger to wipe her eyes with and inventing imaginative new curses.

The Dream Singers - Lucien entertained a brief moment of amazement at the lengths to which the Council would go to pretend that he wasn’t gay and was going to have lots of baby vampires with a suitably Gothic-looking girl.

Dare Not Speak - My professional life – if it could really be called that – was going to hell, my best friend was a mental headcase and a prepubescent electronics genius was living in my kitchen.

The Morningstar - Heat shot between their closed hands as the morningstar mark on Moriel’s palm glowed, faint cracks of pale aura showing where their fingers joined.

Crossing the Rose - Call Death a murderer and he will wonder why you are stating the obvious.

~

The Night Is Always Young (Hellsing) - And to God, of course, though another of the Catholic teachings that had been hammered into Anderson's brain was that God didn't really like dealing with underlings and preferred to receive lists of sins via men in silly hats and white robes that tended to show all the stains from when all the old dears in the congregation with palsy had dropped their Holy Communion.

Only By Default (Harry Potter) - Draco thought that this was singularly unfair and pointed out that surely there had to be some bisexuals, they could reproduce, and how was he meant to find someone to sleep with when all the other students were so damnably straight and I guess I should really stop talking now, shouldn’t I?

Not In Our Stars (Harry Potter) - The fingers of his free hand drummed idly on his leg, slipping slightly on the unfamiliar fabric of new robes, slightly too large and charmed to within an inch of their lives with Anti-Loss spells.

Perspective (Weiss Kreutz) - The blond’s teammates were all worried and it was probably hugs and flowers and fucking brotherly concern, and – knowing Crawford – the rest of Schwartz had buggered off and left him to regain consciousness on his own.

(varying titles) (WK/X) - But even if I had wanted it, even if I had fucked him right then and there in the fucking street, what the hell makes it any of your business?

Pornography (Good Omens) - Crowley shifted nervously, deciding firmly that he was not about to mention anything about sort of maybe having a small crush on this Ford Prefect fellow.

Having Fun (The O.C.) - Another poke, which turns into a shove, which turns into all-out wrestling and suddenly they’re kissing on the beach as the sun sets, which is even more romantic but neither of them mentions it so it’s all okay.

Better and Better (X/1999) - “I think I may be going mad,” he told a pigeon.

Painted From Memory (X/1999) - The entertainment value inherent in appearing after being presumed dead was enormous.

See, this is why me deciding "I want to write something" is then followed by at least fifteen minutes of agonising indecison as to which document I should open.

Many of these look vastly interesting...I'd like to read any I can once its holidays and I actually have some of that precious commodity called TIME. Like Quindlemire. I still havent actually read that. Some of the others look appealing too, like 'In the Court of Cloaks and Daggers' (love the title), 'Raising Excalibur' (Arthur!XD), and 'Better and Better'. ^_^

In other words, I'm off to add [livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit to my friends page.

In the Court is actually Arthurian as well. Slashy Arthurian, even! With sadomasochism! Also with bonus Marlowe and Shakespeare because I'm insane and rewriting English history.

Raising Excalibur is actually complete as a short story thing, but I really want to expand it into ficcishness.

If you have a short amount of TIME, here's the link -

*is now busting to read In the Court*

Well, I didn't, but I did anyway (such is always the way). *luffs it*
Excalibur was a good listener - indeed. Inanimate objects always are! *hugs Jet*

There was a long pause where history paused at a crossroads, one foot uplifted. I still love the idea of 'what if' - if one tiny, seemingly insignificant detail had occured slightly differently, what happens then.
The sentence actually reminds me of Terry P, with the personificationn of things halfway through a sentence. ^_^

Thanksies for the link!
*sighs* Methinks I should be working on history about now...

Mel, I have the first 90 or so pages of Quindlemire saved on my hard drive. Do you want it?

[identity profile] ryokophoenix.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Not yey. Please god no not yet, or I'll end up doing NOTHING.
...
Nothing but read it, anyway. You know what I mean.
...
As in, I won't be doing what is completely necessary to my future.

[identity profile] woodstock-21.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
*pats* It's okay Mellsie. I didn't want to give it to you yet. I went through oral and essay on same topic pain last term.

When is it due? Is there anything I can do to help? *is trying to be helpful*

[identity profile] ryokophoenix.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
OHOHOHOHOH did you have to do a different focus?
Cause the sheet just says 'the oral should not simply be a repeat of the essay', but then mrs garden apparently told tink that 'each should have a different focus'.
I did my oral on, basically, the development of the castle in the defence sense and what it was defending against.
The paper feels like I'm doing the same thing, just mixing up the information and putting it in different places, in a different format, with more breadth and depth.
If I put emphasis on not the defensive sense (ie., other uses for the castle) WILL THIS BE OKAY?!?!
You dont REALLY have to answer too well. Just kinda needed ranty.

[identity profile] woodstock-21.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Um okay, my oral and my essay were basically the same thing. But that's not really helping because I don't know your criteria. Show me the sheet tomorrow and I'll try to help.

I would concentrate on what you said in your oral, only say it more essay-like. Also, go into a little more detail about the other uses of a castle.

That's all I can suggest without actually seeing your criteria and such.
I hope I've helped!

You know, if you do not post this Crowley/Ford thing I may actually die an actual death. In actuality.

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2004-11-06 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)

Crowley/Ford AND Aziraphale/Arthur!

Ford: *distinctly lacking in blink* Nice shades. They must come in handy on sunny days. And indoors.
Crowley: *slow smirk* Thanksss.

Arthur: *adorably lost* If only -- if only there were . . . tea!
Aziraphale: Did somebody say McDonald's tea?
Arthur: *clutch* Tea?
Aziraphale: Er, yes. Tea.
Arthur: *fervently* You're an angel.
Aziraphale: *tactfully* So I've heard.

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2004-11-06 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I was THINKING the tea thing, but the whole idea was just weird and mindblowy and oh God you have to write it so I don't.

...a substance which tasted almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.

(ie. crack)

So many different things.

[identity profile] sanguia.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
daaaaammnnn, you got a lot. and a fragmentof an OC fic i NEED, because the mental image alone is enough to make me want to hound you to finish it until you crack and i am happy. hell, i don't even care about the pairing. unless it's ryan/marissa, IT'S ALL GOOD. and blood casino sounds awesome - have you told me about that one before?
ext_21673: (Default)

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Ryan/Seth. I could make it your Christmas fic, if you want...

Erm...maybe? It's about two vampires, a brother and sister, who run a casino in a version of our world where vampires are a normal part of society. It centres around the brother (Ashe, an immoral bastard whom I love <3), and a French reporter who is sent to investigate the shadier black market in human lives and vampiric powers that is being run at the same casino. It's hard to explain without a long and detailed description of plot and characters.

[identity profile] sanguia.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
*sits up straight and BEAMS* er, yes? yes please?

and no, you haven't told me about that one at all, although it INTRIGUES me - next time we have a maths free, tell me about it? vampires and casinos and french people are all highly delightful to me, especially when pulled off well.
ext_21673: (Default)

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly!

Maths free? oO Are you perhaps talking to Annie in another space-time continuum?

[identity profile] sanguia.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
SORRY WRONG BRAIN - NORMAL free, not maths free ^^;; all frees are maths frees in SPIRIT.
