Mum: It's best to cultivate friendships with males first, I think.

Freya: *brightly* Maybe I should just join the queer society and meet gay guys and make THEM be my best friends.

*general hilarity from parents*

Dad (A surprising moment of perception): Queer society? Are you trying to tell us something?

Mum: No, she just wants to meet gay guys.

Me: Nah, I'm not gay. *pause* I think I'm at least bi, though.

Mum: *nods seriously* *pauses* Well, I wouldn't worry too much, dating is hard for everyone and you'll meet plenty of people through tutes and things... *goes off on rambling tangent*

Freya: *blinkblink*

It'll certainly make "Oh yes, I joined the queer society and now I'm off to the gay nightclub and yeah, this is my semi-girlfriend so-and-so, bye!" a bit easier to explain.
