can you believe

Today's to-do list is pretty daunting (and contains annoying numbers of Official Phone Calls & Emails, which I tend to put off out of...sheer contrariness, it seems?), but I'm getting through it. Of course, the item I'm working on now is 'finish all 6.07 notes' which is going to to take forfuckingever because I kind of dropped the ball at the end of last term, and now my brain has gone soft with chocolate and relaxation over Easter.

For reasons related to time & health & money, I'm trying a new thing where I only watch a single episode of television a day, if that (currently I'm rewatching S1 of Farscape), and also seeing if I can replicate the crazy stress-illness time at the end of last year, when the doctor ordered me off chocolate, coffee and alcohol. I slept a lot better and didn't worry so much about other foods, and the money flew out of my wallet a LOT more slowly when I wasn't buying coffee.

I predict a lot of tea-drinking and book-reading as a result of the above, which sounds dandy-fine.

Also: the second chapter of the heist AU, as promised :)

INDEEDY.

(They are not even the exciting kind of official phone call, which I never ever get. They are ME having to call the pharmacy/the uni health service/my professional mentor/the pharmacy again/some professor my dad put me in contact with, and be all organised and shit. Imagine if I were employed and had to do things like rent an apartment. The phone calls would be ENDLESS.

You're right, commentfic would be far preferable.

"I was wondering," Merlin said, absently turning the nearest cup into a frog, "what your policy is regarding appointments for vaccines if I pick it up myself from the pharamacy?"

And then there were macaroons for all, and Fahye didn't have to type up pages and pages of notes on Parkinsons. THE END.

HAHA WRONG PERSON TO ASK

("That depends on what kind of insurance you have," Arthur replies, checking his watch. Morgana is supposed to be here to replace him by now.)

("Right," says Merlin, trying to sound like someone who knows exactly what kind of insurance he has. "Um. Thing is, I'm in the pharmacy next door, and I need to know if I can just wander on in to see the practice nurse, or if you're booked up for three years.")

dkjaskfjh what public health system are we working under here, I only know Australia's, which is 'all you need is a Medicare card and the government provides those' combined with my personal addendum of 'the university-provided health service is totally free'

D: Merlin's experience is colored by mine. I had the unfortunate experience of having foreign insurance in a small American town. Usually I had to actually pay for services and medicine, and keep the receipts so my insurance company can reimburse me later. And one of the couple times they didn't freak out at my insurance, this happened:

me: No, really, I gave you my insurance information already.
UMass: Okay, can you give it to me again?
[blah blah blah. we reach the part where i give them the company's address.]
me: ...Antwerp, A-N-T-W-E-R-P, Belgium...
UMass: And where in the UK is Belgium?
me: !!!!

Ewwwww. I do have private insurance, but that will only really become an issue if I need elective surgery or want a bed in a private hospital. I get bulk-billed at the GP in Canberra because I'm a family member, which means I don't have to pay anything and the practice bills the government. In other places I can claim most of the cost of an appointment back on Medicare anyway...unless I go to Uni Health, which is 100% bulk-billed free awesomeness.

fsjflsjklfjds TAKE TIPS, AMERICA

If I purchase university insurance, I can bypass a lot of the red-tape, but it costs a shit ton of money. My current school doesn't make it easy to waive school insurance (AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED TO YOUR BILLING). My waiver petition was a thing of beauty. Due to a combination of things, I found myself writing the sentence "I do not plan to get married before the age of 24 for insurance reasons."

Nice to meet you.

Those of us who are American should take a few tips, shouldn't we?

I am so sorry; a sentence that reads "I do not plan to get married before the age of 24 for insurance reasons." is very, very wrong and yet hardly surprising in the American health care system (or lack thereof). Again, so sorry.
