the sky is falling in

Just returned from seeing Angels in America (well, the first half) at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre with [livejournal.com profile] _leareth; I know this play inside out to the extent that I can't really sink into the story because I'm too busy thinking about the words and the blocking and the pace, but analysing live performances of plays I love is one of my favourite things to do!

Anyway, this was good fun, the set was both lovely and creatively used, and the actors were all very strong (the girl playing Harper looked uncannily like a blonde Mary Louise Parker, and adopted a lot of her vocal mannerisms as well, so she came across as distractingly derivative even though she did a phenomenal acting job).

YAY THEATRE. If my wallet can spare the cash, I'm determined to see more plays and musicals this year. Bell Shakespeare is doing a circus-themed Pericles and an all-female-whoo-genderfuck Taming of the Shrew, both at the Sydney Opera House, and I'm so desperate to see some Shakespeare again that I may throw caution to the wind and book myself some tickets.
