bend the light

So far today I have slept off a mild hangover, spent a long time in the library geeking out over my neuroanatomy textbooks, and pouted in an irritated manner at Jeanette Winterson's The Stone Gods, which I would be enjoying far more if it would stop being Fortuna Fugit, with lesbians, in space. That's just not playing fair.

Still to come in this thrilling Sunday: hiking down King St in search of something to eat (I have eaten beef pad see eiw more times than you'd think possible during the past week, so maybe I'll do the longer walk and get some Indian instead. or I could admit to myself that I am addicted to pad see eiw. we'll see.) and then watching one of the DVDs I bought as a self-valentine present.

These are not intellectual films. These are going in the 'one day I will finally track down D.E.B.S. on DVD and then my life will be complete' section of my DVD folder.

[Poll #1349521]

I also bought Bend it Like Beckham and Master and Commander, but I've watched them both too recently.

IDEALLY, of course, I would be spending the evening working on my Merlin fic, but I remain completely unable to write anything. It's driving me nuts.

So I voted for Bring It On, but Mulan would work just as well. Shang will make a man out of yooooou!

Also, I love Bend It Like Beckham so much. JRM's natural accent slays me.

ENG appears to be winning. Which I can't exactly be SAD about, because it is impossible to be sad (or feel any negative emotion!) while watching the crack that is ENG.

I have only seen it once, but I can imagine! Boom, baby.

OOOH. I don't have an eBay account but if you could bid for me, that'd be awesome. Now I just have to decide how much I am actually willing to PAY for the damn thing...

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
*shrug* I can bid, tell me what your maximum price is and I'll put that in and see what happens . If I succeed, it'll just get sent to me. Helps that the seller is in NSW *g*

LEVER, RAWLES, IT'S A LEVER. (I only remember because the first time I watched it I had no idea what they were saying, because apparently Americans say LEV-er whereas we pronounce it LEE-vah.

Best crack in the world.

HAHAHA

I THOUGHT LEVER

BUT TYPED BUTTON

I DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Actually, I do. My brain is still mush from the vids about ladies being awesome. Which might clear up if I stopped watching them over and over and over again.

But...no. I don't think I will!

BEST ANYA ICON EVER. Mine is less awesome but it does have Dimitri flailing like a dork, so whatever.

GUESS WHAT I AM WATCHING RIGHT NOW.

AS AN EXTRA NOTE: I say LEV-er, but LEE-ver-ij.

DMITRI IS GOOD AT FLAILING.

ALSO, I HAVEN'T THE FAINTEST. REALLY.

It is a GREAT street for noms! Though my favourite vegetarian place near campus is Badde Manors on Glebe Point Road. They do an amaaaazing bagel with grilled haloumi, rocket and olive tapenade, and I think they have a lot of vegan stuff too.

DISHONOR ON YOUR WHOLE FAMILY.

And their chai tea is lovely, and it is an excellent place to sit around drinking tea and pretending to study pretentious things (as I recall, I was reading Machiavelli and Sass was reading some kind of queer or feminist theory thing which I refused to touch with a ten foot barge pole at the time. OH MY YOUTHFUL FOOLISHNESS).

[identity profile] tammaiya.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
King St is made of win! One of the doors to my sister's apartment block literally opens onto it, and my siblings have been living in its vicinity for about 9 years now, so I have a great deal of familiarity with it. :) You might not have walked that far down the street but there's a pretty cool cafe called Urban Bites towards the city end.

Also, damn you, you make me want to watch Disney when I need to be writing debates about marijuana. :/

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I LIVE down the city end, Urban Bites is about a two-minute walk from my college :) And whoa, how much would I love to live ON King St when I have my own place. As long as it wasn't fiendishly noisy.

[identity profile] tammaiya.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really not, actually, the way the apartments are set out Ceilidh's on the side facing Campbell St rather than King St. It's a super convenient location, aside from the distance to the train stations-- she's right across the road from Urban Bites and there's a bus stop practically outside her front door.

We always stay nearby when I'm in Sydney, so clearly we'll have to hang out the next time we're both there, since we'd be in the same vicinity!

(... Okay, maybe not the NEXT next time, since that'll be when I arrive on a plane at 7am on the 2nd of March. I think the plan is for me to catch a taxi to the hotel and then my parents will drive me home to Canberra, since they're up that weekend anyway, but I suspect I'll be half-comatose. And you'll probably be either asleep or doing uni stuff. XD)
