fic recs!
I've been reading some excellent fic lately, though where I've been finding the time to do so I have no bloody clue.
Bones
(You and) Things Like You by
runpunkrun and
iamsab (Booth/Brennan)
He should have realized that having sex with Bones would be like a National Geographic special.
This is ADORABLE and perfectly in-character and made me laugh embarrassingly hard. Brennan holds a book signing, Zack talks about elves, and Booth is having trouble concentrating. I wish there were more Booth/Brennan fics like this.
Narnia
Many and Beautiful Things by
loki013 (Susan, Peter, Caspian)
Peter steps aside; his fingers brush Caspian’s over the sword pommel.
This is a magnificent collection of scenes between the scenes of the movie, the events of the books, and slipping into the cracks between Aslan's plan and the hearts and minds of three young people. It's not linear. It's not simple. But it's very, very good. (And it contains my #1 piece of Personal Movie Canon, which is that Edmund comes up with the plan to attack Miraz's castle by air.)
Poor Jerusalem by
liminalliz (post-Prince Caspian, AU)
Jadis knows the Deep Magic; she knows that to the rule this world, a son of Adam must take the throne.
The hypothetical is: what if Lucy hadn't found Aslan in time? The answer is: this fic.
And it's SO AWESOME. I mean, it does terrible things to your heart, do not read it if you're looking for something fun and cheery, but...read it. Lizzen has worked wonders.
Naruto
And Who by
acaciabrown (Naruto/Sasuke; link goes to second chapter, but first is linked from that post)
“I travel through time and space,” Naruto said flatly. “Or at least, I used to until you threw an exploding spoon into it. Oh god, what am I going to do?”
I started reading this WIP on a whim this morning. HEIDI. READ THIS NOW. It's...okay, I feel like I won't spoil it too much by giving this away, it's an AU (and I'm not keen on AUs, you know that) in which Naruto is the Doctor. And he crashes his TARDIS into Sasuke's Lexus. And things just get more interesting from there. The writing isn't fantastic -- the punctuation and sentence flow need a lot of tweaking -- but I just love the idea, the quirky characterisation, and the dialogue's sheer sense of fun. Also it has HEBI MEMBERS in it which gets it millions of bonus points from me <3333
Slings & Arrows
And So Are You by
iamsab (Geoffrey/Darren)
We peel you down, careful with each delicately pinned element, and we hang the entire costume on the rolling rack.
My love for this pairing is unashamed, and my love for this fic in particular is immense. It's about costumes, and creative vision, and the Shrew, and about the absurd going to war with the sublime. And Darren being an arrogant prat, obviously.
Supernatural
in disguises no one knows by
ignited and
regala_electra (Sam/Dean)
They are sisters; they have always been sisters.
Yes, I read some Sam/Dean. If it's good. And this is very good. Genderfuck in the strongest sense of the word, meaning that the premise is fascinating and the characterisation is great and the whole thing is darkly funny and very intelligent, keeping you on your toes and almost as confused as the characters. Guh. I stayed up way too late last night because I couldn't stop reading it.
Supernatural/Good Omens
A Backdoor Into Hell by
oxoniensis (post-S3 of SPN)
"Sssso," he hisses, head to one side. "You're the younger Winchester boy."
Sam's quest to get his brother out of Hell takes him to a certain bookshop in London. This one is short and funny and has FOOTNOTES!
