Torchwood 2x01 - (see icon)

* Thank fuck for the newfound sense of self-awareness that the show has developed over the break. Keep talking about how you're 'pretty, stupid and resilient', keep up the asides about the silly amount of sex, keep up the genre jokes.

* I am also enormously pleased at how much they've become Team Torchwood in Jack's absence, the way they work together and don't fight so much and are immediately, carelessly loyal. And have grown some hints of actual efficiency, especially Ianto. Also, um, during the break I was starting to rethink my unhealthy attachment to Owen, but NO. NO. I STAND BY IT. With his total enjoyment of high-speed chases and his bitchface and his weird courage and improvisation and his tendency to mouth off even especially when it'll get him shot.

* Blah blah insert Captain John commentary here. I don't have anything to add to the general consensus: he's a hilarously bitchy version of Spike and I'm glad he'll be sticking around. And I am amused by the fact that the Time Agency Rules Of Engagement seem to consist of one tactic only, and that is making out with stuff. I started to make an official flow diagram of this (is it armed? if Y, disarm. if N, make out with. NB - disarming is not essential for outmaking to occur) and then I got bored.

* Requisite ship opinion section:
- Jack/Gwen = NO. JUST NO.
- Jack/Ianto = uhggghhggh all right, though only because they gave Ianto a personality.
- Owen/Tosh = my gut instinct is NO NO NO but I've decided that I'll be able to stomach it, if and only if they include relevant events during Jack's absence and take it really, really slowly and stop sledgehammering awkwardly at the audience.
- Jack/John = as everyone has said, Doctor/Master lite, and thus to be encouraged in all its psychopathic snarky glory.
(- Martha/Owen = er, only Aria and I will ever, ever ship this, and then only if it involves new!improved!Owen and Martha calling all the shots, but they could be totally awesome.)

* That was EXCITING, you know? It was fast and flashy and fun and funny. I do love this show sometimes.
