modern science is so uncreative

Fun fact for today, courtesy of my textbook chapter on personality disorders! The ancient Greeks decided that the emotional problems of women were caused by the migration of the uterus within the body. So if you've ever wondered why 'hysteria' and 'hysterectomy' have the same root...(you know, as one does)...that's why!

I just think medicine was so much more exciting when it was completely wrong and all about the balance of one's humours or the moistness of one's brain.

Just imagine:

A: Whoa, she's screeching loud enough to wake the dead.
B: Never mind her, her uterus is just migrating.

ETA: I am so smart.

Me: Hmm, I'm feeling slightly dizzy and my attention span is even more dreadful than usual!
Me: Hang on, I wonder when I last ate?
Me: ...THAT WOULD BE BREAKFAST, NEARLY SEVEN HOURS AGO.

WELL DONE, FAHYE. WELL DONE.

Yeah, I'm going to go and hunt down some kind of carbohydrate.

Totes learned that from David Markson. O braincandy!

Also learned that Aristotle thought women have fewer teeth than men (?!) You'd think that would be easy to verify . . .

YES, MAYBE MY UTERUS GOT UP AND WANDERED OVER AND SAT DOWN ON THE NERVES CONNECTING MY STOMACH TO MY BRAIN?

I have occasionally had that feeling. There was even screeching. But then it turned out it was just cramps.

Next time I have them, though, I'm telling everyone my uterus is migrating. XD

I have known this for many many years.

MOST PEOPLE NEVER BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL THEM THE ETMOLOGY OF HYSTERIA.

YES EXACTLY.

(Although we learned about the gutbrain yesterday in class. Maybe your uterus ate your gutbrain.)
