BSG 3x08 - Hero

This episode was not particularly interesting, and I think the ADAMA STARTED THE WAR concept could have been introduced a hell of a lot more gradually, but it was like having season one back! Really! The way it was shot, apart from the random scenes with Three (which are growing on me nevertheless, I must say), was very reminiscent of the first season. And there were parallels everywhere (Dee's in CIC relaying the comms - Adama's giving speeches from podiums - there are CYLONS and we are SHOOTING THE BASTARDS) but the best part? The best part was how we've changed. Kara notices something fishy and she goes to Tigh immediately. She and Kat are flying without making it a pissing contest. Lee sits down to chat with his father and there's trust, reassurance, and thoughtless filial affection.

AND ROSLIN. ROSLIN. That final conversation with Adama, where she accuses him of being naive. Let me pin a frakking medal to your chest. She's hardened out amazingly and she knows him, knows him so well, and she's the only President this show will ever need. (Though where's Tom? I MISS TOM MOTHERFRAKKING ZAREK.) And she just shoots his self-absorbed guilt (we can see where Lee gets it from, huh?) down mercilessly in favour of cutting through the bullshit. It was exactly what he needed, and exactly what the Fleet needed, and exactly what she needed. Laura Roslin, ladies and gentlemen, is a consummate politician.

Oh, my show. You've grown up a little.

So: this was such a comfortable episode. Like coming home. Like being fixed. Starbuck is in a Viper, Adama and Tigh have silent manly bonding, and the Admiral and the President rule everything ever.

I agree - the episode as a whole was kind of random, in the "Uh, wait, what?" kind of way. I mean, hell, I don't know - maybe the writers have had this twist in mind since 2003, and any and all foreshadowing has just been too subtle for mere mortals to notice, but, uh. I'm sceptical. But dlfkjsadl;fsal; Roslin.
