I despised the image of Australians that the guy presented to the world, but still - he was a smart businessman and a good spokesperson for the environment, and he managed to get peoples interest; to die that way is a horrible, terrible thing.
I too am saddened for his family. I know there'll be a lot of support - the guy will practically be a folk hero now, knowing the media - but still.
I must admit I'm quite shocked (though not entirely suprised) about this. I really disliked him when I first saw him. However he was at least trying to do something for the environment and did respect that even if I did find his style grating in the extreme. I feel so sorry for his wife and kids.
Talk about freak accident though, I mean stingray stings are EXTREMELY painful but as far I know they are rarely fatal. Getting stung right through heart is really unlucky to put it mildly.

That's, um... wow.

Huh. Curtains for the crocodile hunter, I suppose. I feel sad for his wife and kids.

Yeah, he was a bit annoying and crazy, but wow.

And yeah - I suppose no matter how awful the image was, there are worse missions than encouraging public interest in wildlife and the environment.
