never rebuff a local feeling
I love Susan Maushart. Sometimes a girl needs a militant and hilarious feminist to write long sensible articles about the increasing phenomenon of happy and successful single women - never married, and childless - in Australian society. (Said article is not online, sadly, but it's in the Weekend Australian Magazine if any Aussies are interested.) She also does a regular column which is social satire drenched in jokes about ex-husbands, her mother, and how technologically advanced her children are.
As Bridget Jones would say: HURRAH FOR THE SINGLETONS!
Check back with me in a week and I'm sure I'll be less positive about my situation, but for now I am bouyant on the prospect of a girly evening watching Jean-Pierre Jeunet films and eating pizza.

As an amazing non sequitur:
ryokophoenix is brilliant and has tracked down the version of It's Tough To Be A God that's featured in the El Dorado film, rather than the Elton John version on the soundtrack. Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh. Singing. It's fantastic.

Also it is too bad that article isn't online; I would like to read it. :(

I may actually type it up, if I can grab the magazine from my mother tomorrow. It had some interesting statistics and points about gender differences in when it is acceptable to be single.
