I'm looking for baggage that goes with mine

*headdesk* I have listened to this song faaaaaar too many times. I can sing practically all of it.

Was explaining to parents over dinner, to a backing of LotR soundtrack and with much enthusiastic waving-of-cutlery, the plot of The Morningstar and what a great movie it would make and how I would design the trailer...

My mother looked at me for a few moments and then told me in all seriousness that I would be wasted on physics. She suggested taking a screenwriters course O.o

I want to write. More than anything. I am not, however, labouring under any delusions that I will ever make any money from it or even ever get published. So I need an actual profession. Talked about this for a while, Mum suggested that maybe the PhB isn't the best thing for me after all and I should just do a BSc(Hons). Less stress, more time for writing. Also, UAI needed has just dropped from 99 to 80 :D

Procrastination = meme!

Pick five, or ten, or more, of your fic titles. List them in your journal and explain how you came up with each one. Post this prompt as well, so that the meme spreads.

Quindlemire

I wanted a word that was purely made up, and basically played around with rearranging letters until I got something that I liked. The word, in the story: "Quindlemire comes from the dwolvi words quindehl, meaning individual, and mihr, meaning fate. A person's quindlemire is their purpose, the reason they were born into this world..." - Granny

Dare Not Speak

This has a double meaning to reflect the two main storylines and themes of the story. Okay, that sounded pretentious beyond all reason, but anyway. Obviously it deals with homosexual relationships, and "the love that dare not speak its name" is a fairly well known term for homosexuality. It's from a poem by Oscar Wilde's lover. Or something. Anyway, the other theme is abusive relationships and the fear cycle, and the title reflects the fact that the character is afraid to complain or speak out about the abuse. It made sense in my head.

angelfoodcake

Whee, artsy lack of capitalisation and spaces. Fairly basic explanation, the story is about angels... and I wanted something to do with angels but not too conventional or cliched. There's also this really cute scene where Rachelle is picking out cake mixes and gets all affronted by the fallen angel cake, and eventually picks angel food cake and Kenneth laughs at her and I'll stop blabbing now.

In The Court Of Cloaks And Daggers

This title just sort of popped into my head without warning, as most things connected with the fic tend to do. I wanted the plot to centre around the intrigues and relationships within the court, and 'cloaks and daggers' is a term for intrigue. It also sounds vaguely like a dramatic term, giving the impression of a contrived play or thatrical piece - and my darling narrator Marlowe is one of the eminent playwrights of the Elizabethan era.

Painted From Memory

This is stolen from an Elvis Costello song. Because I searched a lyrics database for songs with the word 'memory' in the title, found this song and liked the name. It also has this little extract, which is utterly appropriate to Sei's situation at the beginning of the fic:

You'd think that I would know by now
Those eyes I tried to capture
They are lost to me now forever
They smile for someone else

My Own Way

Naming this fic was really, really hard. I started off having two names, one for each part; My Own Way and Everything But Goodbye. But since they were really the same fic, I wanted a name for the whole. I pulled 'Hurt' out of nowhere and used it for the sake of convenience. But then I realised that My Own Way could apply to both parts, because it's said in both:

(Oriya): I want to go my own way without always having your existence hanging over me.

(Muraki): Certainly I care for Oriya, in my own way – but then again, perhaps that’s not the right way to put it.

Everything But Goodbye is really too sentimental for something narrated by Muraki, anyway.

The Night Is Always Young

Eugenie and I took some time coming up with this one, and then proceeded to use it or variations of it at every turn in the fic ^_^ We were going to massively play up the parody idea and call it "Love's Damnation", but this sounded cooler. It's basically highlighting the idea that to a vampire there is always night, and vampires are always young, blah blah... And it's the last line of the fic, too.

Yes, we've written the last line. No, we're not telling you what happens. We may never even GET there.

Only By Default

I don't know if this counts as a fic, at the moment it's a few pages of writing and a vague bunny outline. It's my random humourous Draco/Harry, and the whole idea revolves around the fact that they're the only two gay guys in the entire school. (Draco: Which is drastically unfair...) So they sort of have to start dating, and they become boyfriends 'by default'. And, you know, Draco's in denial and keeps telling himself that even when things get more serious. It's a silly idea, but kind of fun to scribble occasionally.

Can't think of anything else interesting, really.
