fahye: ([eyai] one whispered winter day)
I've been bogged down in/angsting over my current WIP for too long, I need to remind myself that writing can be lighthearted and fun.

Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom/pairing and I’ll tell you something about the story I’d write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write)

1. genderswap
2. bodyswap
3. drunk!fic
4. huddling for warmth
5. pretending to be married
6. secretly a virgin
7. amnesia
8. cross-dressing
9. forced to share a bed
10. truth or dare
11. historical AU
12. accidental-baby-acquisition
13. apocalypse fic
14. telepathy
15. High School/College AU

Pick a fandom! Any fandom! Eyai is also not only allowed but strongly encouraged.
fahye: ([ed] see you at the execution)
I do not know where this meme comes from, Ji found it, but I think it's great:

If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach.
— Alfred Hitchcock

When I write a story, what do you immediately look for?
fahye: ([science] dr fahye needs coffee)
Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Oh dear. Oh...dear. The great majority of these come from a subfolder called 'Hiatus', which is code for 'will never actually be written, not in a million years'.

Feel free to ask me about any of them! )

fahye: ([sh] an infinite impetus forward)

I am seriously considering going to see the play of Birdsong -- featuring Ben Barnes! -- on a friend's recommendation, because I am halfway through the book and can definitely have finished reading it in time for the matinee on Saturday. It'd be a LOT cheaper than a musical. Although with fewer sparkling dance scenes and more heart-wrenching WWI imagery, one assumes.

SOMEONE IN LONDON has to go and see Catherine Tate and David Tennant play Beatrice and Benedict for the RSC's production of Much Ado this summer, though, and then TELL ME EVERYTHING *_* God, I wish it was on now. I would sell a kidney to see that show.

ETA: Ooh, I like this meme, it looks thinky.

Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top five ideas/concepts/other I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting them accurately. This includes both original characters and characters about whom I write fanfic.
fahye: ([science] dr fahye needs coffee)
I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do work.

So, if you want, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about XYZ, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.

Seriously, folks, nothing makes me happier than going on and on and on and on about my writing. HAVE AT.

(BTW, if your question is 'what the FUCK is going on with the Merlin heist AU??', the answer is 'I wrote some of Chapter 4 last night!')
fahye: (Default)
Out of utter curiosity, if I was chained up in your attic/study/basement/library/secret lair, and I had to write you one story, what would you request? (demand?) Or alternatively, what's something you always hoped I'd write but know is never going to happen?

Being chained up in a library actually sounds like an ideal working environment if you ask me. As long as my captor was prepared to provide plenty of coffee, cider, and Thai food, I would be quite amenable to this arrangement.
fahye: ([nar] when the waves start to break)
Tonight Fahye, MASTER CHEF, managed to masterfully slice off part of her fingernail while masterfully chopping oregano. (I mean, like, the part of the nail that is meant to be attached to the finger. It bled a fair bit. But I suppose it would only have taken a few angles of difference for the tip of the finger to have gone with it, so, CLOSE SHAVE THERE. Literally.)

Those of us who don't participate in the annual Remix challenge -- and, hell, those of us who do -- sometimes wonder which one of our fics someone might remix, and if so, what they might do with it.

OOH. Yes?
fahye: ([dw] scatter them across time and space)
The eternal question arises: to finish my Clinical Services assignment and study for my dermatology test, or to do another meme about my own writing?

Gee, difficult.

Post, in your journal, a rec list singling out the best of your own fics. Tell people why you are especially proud of those particular fics, and of course provide links to them. Yes, that's right, this step involves self-promotion. How else are people supposed to find your fics? List as many or as few as you feel appropriate to represent your body of writing.

Also include a paragraph about the types of fics you most enjoy reading or are most interested in reading in the immediate future -- favorite tropes, pairings, fandoms, whatever. If you're particularly lazy, link to that Dear Writer post you did for whatever holiday exchange comes to mind.

Reply to other rec posts (like for example the one you are reading now) by reccing a fic of your own that might fit the original poster's tastes, or that you'd just really like them to read, because maybe they don't know they'd like it.

I tried to stop at thirteen, but it grew. )
fahye: ([wc] ashes ashes we all fall down)
And finally, the writing meme questions from [ profile] misura!

Let's talk about the psy-AU )
fahye: ([eyai] an enigma and a half)
Seriously, nobody else has questions? Sad! I could babble about my stories forever.

Answers for Kelsey )
fahye: ([wc] the price is steep)
Ask me a question about one of my fics -- characters, plot, what happened before or after, what the writing process was like, what scenes I cut or changed, other ways the fic could have gone, relevant bits of backstory/headcanon/worldbuilding, what a certain line or scene meant or was in reference to, what various characters were doing offscreen, or anything else you can think of. Questions can be as silly/serious/sexy as you like.

Four-day Easter weekend = time for memes like this :)
fahye: ([vm] the warp of the world)
Post a sentence from all of your (active) WIPs

- He extends a hand, all darkness and firmness tapering upwards to a smile, like some graceful obelisk erected for the centuries.

- Hikaru can never believe something unless he has it in his hands -- not the texture of a raw silk sample, not the length of Haruhi's hair whenever she feels like swaying towards the boyish end of the gender spectrum for a while, and not the presence of Tamaki in the room now.

- "We would have managed to steal the the sword weeks ago if you spent as much time studying the security system as you do studying Arthur's perfect arse!" Morgana snapped.

- Bellatrix leaves a dead bird in the hallway and Draco summons his broom, the Accio sour like bile on his tongue.

- "Wow," Merlin said. "I don't know how some of these people got past the entrance interview."

Yes, I just made that meme up right then. So what. GO WITH IT.

I enjoy dates like this one! Obviously it can never be as good as the time I put Lucifer into Milliways on 06-06-06, but you know, one must celebrate the little symmetries as they arise.

I wish there were some kind of complex meme-tagging system on LJ that allowed one to view all iterations of a particular meme, even by people who are not on your reading list; I want to read every single 15-word love poem that has been written! And then collate them somehow.

Here are a few more from me.

jealousy of others,
vicarious joy:
all feelings are stronger
when felt about you

every other person in the world
can think of me
however they damn well please

what if
this really is
as perfect as it gets?

I might write more of these. SO MUCH FUN. Have a go!

fahye: ([nar] vital signs & quiet ghosts)
I am working on the top fives one, I am, but this one is low-effort and makes for a good study break.

I have only included the first lines of stories back to the last time I did this meme, so there are less than twenty. I cannot see any trends except for my reluctance to use past tense in...any fandom but Merlin, apparently!

1) The Game of Kings - Here you are at the end of the beginning; this year is the axis upon which your fate spins, widdershins, the direction of undoing.

2) Three Bags Full - Tee's earliest memory is of his back hitting the Filter, hard, his sister towering over him like a tall bird with ragged shadow-wings.

3) Unlisted Side Effects of Metacetamin-Derived Opiates - The feel of the floor against his feet is a wonder, no, a fucking miracle, what with the fact that every other time he's tried to adopt any position other than tucked-in-and-comatose it's resulted in McCoy yelling WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING, SWEETCHEEKS, GET YOUR ASS BACK IN THAT BED BEFORE I HAVE YOU DECLARED INSANE AND INSTALL RESTRAINTS.

4) Like a Ruthless Force - Ever obedient, Lucy calls him Master now, feeling neither resignation nor fear.

5) five things Booth thinks about when he's driving home at night - For almost the entire day, he's been thinking about the contents of his fridge.

6) when our falsehoods are divided - In the imperfect subjunctive the verb mentir becomes mentissions, its edges dragged out into alluring sibilants.

7) GOLDENEYE - Having sampled every type of canape in the room and inspected his own hair in the mirrored pillar enough times that one of the agents on security detail was now checking it clandestinely for hidden cameras, Arthur was forced to find entertainment elsewhere.

8) Miss the Train Before - The city air was hot and mad, slapping against the skin like a damp flannel that left one feeling dirtier instead of cleaner.

9) The Anatomy of Need - To Sakura's credit, his hands are covered in blood.

10) Quickening Days - "Arthur! Are you awake?"

11) Meteorology (five ways to defuse a prince) - In retrospect, it had taken a surprisingly short time for Merlin to decide that Arthur Pendragon was not actually a complete prat.

12) letters of the void (II) - A woman, young, with reddish blonde hair and a knack for finding information, is splicing wires together and trying to ignore the way the air is humming and light seems to be bending to avoid her eyes.

11) letters of the void (I) - Londinium in the hottest of the seasons, which blur into one another at the best of times; in the stifling heat the city rolls over like a bloated corpse and bares its ugliest side to the moons.

12) So Great & Beautiful - You fall in love with Susan the moment you set eyes on her.

13) to cover a bruise (the rainy days remix) - When they are twelve years old, someone somewhere flicks a switch, flicks their fingers like they're creating sparks, and Mai is set aside like one of those dolls that are meant to be looked at -- looked at, but not played with.

14) Sleight of Hand [No links for you! This is my [ profile] lemontreeparade fic, which I really want to post, but I am waiting until after the book is released. WHICH IS TAKING AGES ;_; WHAT IS UP WITH THAT, ADI] - There is no such thing as magic.
fahye: ([hb] shine forth upon our clouded hills)

Seriously, I don't have a lot of time for writing right now and I've been feeling -- not off, but stale, for quite a while. So I would ADORE hearing any concrit you guys have for me. Tell me about the good, the bad, the far-too-indulgent, and the overused.

Oh man. You know what's sad? How many of these are the same ones from the LAST time I did this meme.

(This is meant to motivate me, but it always ends up making me feel like I've accomplished something and I deserve to take the rest of the day off. UM. Oh well. You are all to be heartless in your whining, poking, yelling and emotional blackmail.)

I want to do a creative/meta meme but there is nothing going around, and it's not like I have that much fic to be asked about*. But ask me writing questions anyway?

*I had to remove that part, it is a dirty dirty lie where I am concerned.

'Writing questions' can mean pretty much anything you want it to mean, my sweets. I have a lot of work to do tonight and I'm going to need something to do in my breaks.
fahye: ([disney] a soul beneath the surface)
This one looks like my kind of meme:

Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you one thing I knew, learned, or wondered about while writing the story that didn't make it onto the page.

You guys go to town on that, it'll give me something relaxing to do once I've unpacked a car full (and half a boxroom full) of my crap, and somehow reconstructed my Sydney life from the boxes.

Don't feel like you have to avoid picking a fic that someone else has already named; I can do multiple things! And -- especially where my Merlin fics are concerned -- it would probably be helpful.
fahye: ([sga] you will whisper jubilate)
This meme is about as complex as my thought patterns are prepared to get right now. And it looks like more fun than what I'm meant to be doing, which is writing up my lit review.

Sometimes It's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then admonish your readership to do the same so you can find new stories to read and pimp!

Narrowing them down to five was like pulling teeth. Which is a good sign, I think, considering how many of my fics I detest during the writing process itself. )

I really do want other people to do this meme! I think it's interesting to see what people like the most out of their own oeuvre.
