fahye: ([spn] under a devil's trap)

This is mostly hilarious because all of the teenage geeks who scrimped and saved to buy a Super Speshul con pass including a photo session during which they got to put their arm around Hayden Panettiere now get a photo session in which Jared Padalecki makes them look even scrawnier than they already are simply because he is an enormous (hot) freak. (Poor geeks. I hope they get smiled at by Jewel Staite.)

I wonder what would happen if I showed up at the Sunday Q&A dressed as a technicolour Disney gypsy and asked him a question about subversion of mythos as a narrative structure.

To be frank I haven't been paying much attention to the events planned for this con, because I have a feeling being part of such a massive attention-drawing cosplay group will take up most of my time, but -- oh yeah! There are guests & panels & stalls & shit like that.
fahye: ([bones] life is holding the clue)
When in doubt, I let my flist make my decisions for me. So you lot are going to pick one of the two Bones epics currently festering away on my hard drive, and I'm going to work on only that one until it's finished, rather than flicking between documents like the flightly little thing that I am. All right then.

Option #1 - boy with a coin )

Option #2 - 80% )

I...I almost caught myself spending money that I don't even have yet on renewing my Extra Userpics.

SO I am using my sexy sexy Bela icon, complete with Indigo Girls lyric keywords*, to express my approval of sexy sexy Bela while I still can! And to remind myself that now that Yuletide is dead, buried, bones salted & burned uploaded, I should work on my Bones/SPN fic that grew Dean/Bela phonesex when I wasn't looking.

In saner news, I got cards today from [livejournal.com profile] bop_radar, [livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate, [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat and [livejournal.com profile] malachan! I LOVE CARDS <3333 Thanks guys.

*I am so in love with this song, it is RIDICULOUS.
fahye: ([spn] expressive eyebrows)
Written for [livejournal.com profile] setissma's drabblefest, reposting here. It turned out as more about being cold than about warming up, but we've been having thirty-degree weather here so I'm not exactly in the mood for fires and warm jackets :)

The girl has an ice-carved look, her features all in sharp shades of blue and white, a cold drowning depth to the shadows and hollows of her face. )
fahye: ([spn] don't you cry no more)
Caught up on SPN today. I suppose I have some things to say but I am apparently godawful at meta (even more so than usual!) when it comes to this show, so I'll content myself with wondering where the hell all the Dean/Bela porn is, because hot dang.

But [livejournal.com profile] setissma is having a Baby, it's cold outside drabblefest over at her journal and the current contributions, including my little ficlet in which I cruelly deface a perfectly harmless Russian folk tale, are looking QUITE LONELY, so anyone SPN-inclined should head over there and leave scribbles/icons/randomness of their own.

Now: fic recs! You should realise that I read very little fanfiction; I don't follow any communities, so everything I read is either written or recced by my friends. Which suits me fine, because I have some awesomely talented friends. )

Blah blah fandomness. Still totally obsessed with Bones, still drowning happily in OTP, still prepared to tear down mountains with my TEETH if it will get me some good Booth/Brennan fic so that I don't end up writing ridiculously romantic cohabitation fic of my own, because IT WILL HAPPEN, YOU GUYS, and then my carefully-constructed reputation as a writer of shining and ruthless cynicism will be destroyed forever.
fahye: ([spn] not going to hug or anything)
#1 - I am sick of staring at pictures of dissected bodies like you wouldn't believe, and I am waging war on the muscles of the forearm, but anatomy study seems to be going okay.

#2 - I started Rome, which I have had sitting around since approximately forever! Brutus' accent is the funniest thing in the world (it's so very very British Public Schoolboy) and James Purefoy is somehow even hotter as Mark Antony than he was as the Black Prince, but my heart belongs to Vorenus and Pullo and their hilarious domestic badassery. (Apparently a movie exists where Kevin McKidd and James Purefoy play lovers? Considering that I am already having idle aesthetic daydreams about how hot Antony/Vorenus would be, I think I should hunt it down.)

#3 - This article on 'Atheists and Anger' is pretty much everything I've ever wanted to say on the matter, said eloquently and with pictures.

#4 - One of my cousins in England had a son a few months ago, and we've just been sent some photographs.

Mum: So there's Jo and her young man, and there's little Sam Dean.
Me: I'm sorry, what's his name?
Mum: Samuel Dean?
Me: ...*suppresses laughter*

Clearly one day he will grow up and fight evil.
fahye: ([spn] peace when you are done)
Lesson: I should not be allowed to watch season finales and then start typing without a clear idea of where the fuck I'm headed.

You want to see if what's under your feet is really concrete and if she'll gasp as you slam her down into it. )
fahye: ([spn] don't you cry no more)
I realise half of my flist is in Chicago and probably having far too much fun to do anything else (although anyone who's at Millicon/with Millifolken and still checking their flist, shout out! Wave your arms!) but fannish glee waits for no man.

- I finally finished watching the first season of Heroes. Um. I have no meta; I never have meta for this show. That said, those of you who have been hiding the Micah/Molly futurefic (I KNOW IT'S OUT THERE SOMEWHERE) can hand it over now.

- Making my way slooowly through SPN S2. I don't want to run out of episodes. Today I watched Roadkill (Tricia Helfer! OMG!) and also Heart )
fahye: ([spn] peace when you are done)
I keep getting to the final instrumental bridge and telling myself I am getting a LITTLE sick of this song and I should take it off repeat, but then before I can quite do that the OPENING BARS OF A CAPELLA AWESOME play again and I think OH WINCHESTERS and the whole terrible cycle starts over again. (I think maybe I need some more SPN-esque music - HELP? I don't own any, and the pounding roadtrippy stuff is really growing on me, and if I don't stop playing this one song over&over I am going to internalise it irrevocably*.)

(This is also [livejournal.com profile] setissma's fault. She promised me fic with chemical intoxication! Which means I am loitering hopefully around my flist like some kind of delinquent casing a local newsagent. And listening to this song.)

Speaking of chemicals, I am going to go and clean the bathrooms and try to suppress all urges to wail I HEAR THE VOICES WHEN I'M DREEEEEAMING at the top of my lungs.

*That said, if anyone knows of a good fanvid to it - not the WB pre-S1-finale thinger, but an actual fanvid - I would be on that like white on rice.
fahye: ([spn] not going to hug or anything)
So I'm reading An Experiment in Love by Hilary Mantel, because I long ago stopped resisting Ji's efforts to dictate my literary consumption, and I'm really liking it in a slow, dangerous way. It's kind of like Sylvia Plath invited Jeanette Winterson over for tea and crumpets and girlkissing and instead they ended up hitting each other with sticks.

The only other occurence of note is that I have managed to overcome several inner obstacles such as a deep dislike for the horror genre and the fact that I overidentify with Dean to the point of sheer irritation, and am now hopelessly and pathetically in love with SPN.

If I do end up shipping them I am blaming [livejournal.com profile] setissma WHOLLY AND ENTIRELY because she is a sneaky fiend who springs things like Sam-doped-up-on-painkillers and psychic pillowfights upon the unsuspecting reader.

Re: subject line, I will drabble absolutely anything of the artist's choice if anyone chooses to take me up on that offer, and I do mean anything.
fahye: ([spn] my illicit dubiosities)
Courtesy of it being my father's 50th birthday, I am sitting at my computer sipping a glass of 1991 Grange. You wish you were me.

Actually, this post is an effort to put off watching the next few episodes of SPN, which all have names like 'Skin' and 'Bugs'. Simple four-letter nouns should not be able to sound that creepy.

I am starting to see where fandom is coming from with this whole Wincest thing. Not that I'm planning on writing it any time soon, or chanting SNOG SNOG SNOG at the screen, but I know how fandom works.

Fandom: Uh, you gave us a show where the only two characters who are around long enough to have decent personalities/interactions are two hot guys who like to touch each other a lot and save each other's lives. WHAT, EXACTLY, DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN HERE?

ETA: ...yeah, I knew this was a bad idea. My reaction to bugs generally involves shrieking "KILL IT WITH YOUR SHOE!" and then becoming excessively violent. The only things preventing me from turning this episode off are the facts that there are blatant gay jokes happening and Dean just appeared with a towel on his head.
fahye: ([bsg] playing at madness)
*cracks knuckles*

- First of all I want to throw huge amounts of love in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] liminalliz, twin of my heart, who made this excellent post on the nature of captivity as a plot device, or Why Kara/Leoben And Hannibal/Clarice Are Awesome But Certain Parts Of The Doctor Who Finale Are Not. I agree with every word she says. Read. Lizzen ALSO sent me an enormous parcel full of wonderful things including a beanie Texan cow and a gorgeous notebook and BOOKS. SO MANY BOOKS. BOOKS ABOUT YELLOW FEVER AND THE BLACK DEATH AND MEDIEVAL WHODUNNITS AND EEEEBOOKS.

- Having reconsidered and actually kind of made the suicidal skip=200 trek through my flist, I have a lot of things tagged as 'to read', so I'll be doing that tonight. Be not alarmed if comments come at you from the blue!

- My [livejournal.com profile] ds_shakespeare fic missed deadline, sigh, but thankfully it's a very loose-and-friendly kind of comm and I will attempt to kick the thing into shape this weekend. My problem is that it's not really a fic so much as a series of conversations that take place within the same timeframe, and I can't even cheat and eschew joining scenes like I normally would because that immediately undermines the premise of at least half of them. DAMMIT.

- Re: those Doctor Who S4 casting spoilers, um, I am so hugely and enthusiastically in favour of this development that I am surprising even myself. YAY.

- All right, all right, I cave. Please rec me good (and I mean good - I don't read a whole lot of fic, and I am about as picky as you would imagine given my blatant literary elitism) fic in the fandoms of Heroes and Supernatural. Don't feel shy about pimping your own stuff: I keep you people on my flist for a reason, you know? Any pairing. My mind is very open at this stage.
fahye: ([hcl] this is my time travel coat)
I have returned! And have been attempting to work through my inboxes and scroll through my flist (- a lost cause. I gave up. if you've posted fic or anything you want me to see in the last four days, link me!). But you lot appear to have killed the Internet AT LEAST TWICE with the sheer volume of your activities, so I keep taking breaks to write this update and hope that the connection returns soon.

The coast was wonderfully warm and sunny compared to Canberra (which is currently grey, windy and something like two degrees) and it was nice to do some walking and get some peace and quiet for a few days.

Further coast update, with subheadings )

I am sure I have stuff to talk about, but I am leaving soon for the rink - Aussie Skate testing tonight, and then tomorrow I am trial judging the ISA section of the ACT Figure Skating Championships, and then on Saturday I am judging the Aussie Skate section. Time to start stockpiling gloves and scarves - I don't even want to THINK about how cold the rink is going to be.
