Well, these got longer than I imagined they might.

A good excuse for introspection, though. )

Title: The Trials of Temerity Cox
Prompt: In an alternate future/history, a revolutionary inventor (or revolutionary-inventor) is holding his/her world hostage. [from [livejournal.com profile] electrumqueen]
Setting: Future Sydney, Australia.
Opening Credits Song: The Whitlams, ‘Don’t Believe Anymore’ (I don’t know where to begin, don’t want to hear it again / I don’t believe any more)
Closing Credits Song: The Living End, ‘Riot on Broadway’ (We won’t run any more / But we’ll scream and shout).
Synopsis: Temerity Cox hasn’t left her house for thirteen years, knowing that the world outside is dangerous and the government oppressive. When she decides that what society needs is a revolution, and she should be the one to lead it, she discovers that she’s been lied to her whole life -- and that the real revolution will require friends, secrets, and a willingness to fight dirty.

And it begins. )

I've read a little over a third of them, I think?

Feel free to recommend any of the unread ones if you think they'd be up my alley, too.

Bold if you've read, italicize ones you fully intend to read, underline if it's a book/series you've read part but not all of. )

I've just spent an entire morning sorting through past papers of paediatric exams, with the end result that I now know how much I DON'T KNOW, BUT REALLY NEED TO.

What a depressing way to spend Easter.

MEME TIME. Save me, flist.

Give me a character and I will tell you:

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

The only thing that's missing is my phone (currently charging). Notice how I refuse to carry my wallet around, so as not to succumb to my own terrible weakness and start spending money on things. The 50c is left over from an EMERGENCY CHOCOLATE PURCHASE which I prescribed myself as prophylaxis against keeling over in a faint during ENT clinic this afternoon.

DO THIS MEME, it's great.
fahye: ([nar] if you put me to the test)
This is maybe a variant on an existing meme? Eh. Who knows. Mostly I am inventing it because I really want to do it for all you guys :D

Who on LJ do you ship me with? Bonus points for outlining the ridiculous AU fic that you would write about us.

(You can ship me with someone we both know. Or someone you know but I don't. Or someone I know and you know of only through their username. WHATEVER. This is not exactly a deep and meaningful meme.)

I would totally write the fic in which [livejournal.com profile] ariastar and [livejournal.com profile] littledust meet on the set of a Tom Stoppard play and then hatch a secret plot to steal all the show's earnings and run away together to Portugal. During the course of this adventure, they also wear fetching berets.
fahye: ([tmhs] something to say to the world)
[livejournal.com profile] erisabesu posted this meme and it seems like an excellent way to get me off my ass and using my new camera.
Ask me to take pictures of any aspect of my life that you're interested in/curious about -- it can be anything from my favorite shirt to my DVDs. Leave your requests -- can be more than one, I don't care -- as a comment to this entry, I'll snap the pictures and put them in another post.

Killing time before a morning of lectures:

The problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about one another. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Comment with a fandom of mine and I will reply with my:

+ Honorable mention(s)

Holidays also = finally watching all of 30 Rock S3! And drinking crazy amounts of tea! And finding out that my baby sister is now the same height as me, dear GOD, how did that even happen.
fahye: ([stxi] show me what you can do)
- Sadly, the dust failed to be followed by either a plague of locusts or a zombie attack (although at choir we discussed this possibility in great detail and formulated some ideal/nonideal plans of action should such a thing ever occur) and in fact the glorious sky-colour blew over by the afternoon, leaving a lot of dirty cars and an unpleasant dryness in my throat.

- CHOIR. UGH. Despite last week being jam-packed with rehearsals and concerts and parties and subsequent hangovers, this week is just as bad! Rehearsal was 6:30-9:30 tonight, and for the next three nights I have to be at the Great Hall from 5:30-10pm. MED SCHOOL? STUDY? HAHAHA.

- Meeting with Honours supervisor went well! I think he realised I needed a little more handholding and a more concrete line of scientific enquiry. I should be set to write my proposal for the faculty now. You know. In all that free time I have.

- I have started watching Big Bang Theory <3 Episodes are just the right length for a brain-break, and a lot of fun. (I had to put Project Runway on hold for a few days because, er, I couldn't sleep due to Christian Siriano's voice carrying on commentary IN MY HEAD. Bad sign. Bad sign.)

- Speaking of zombies, I've been shuffling through my life feeling not quite all there (and only revived by brief windows of neurology study, ie. BRAAAAAIIIINS) and basically worn out. But! When this week is over I get a two-week holiday in Canberra \o/ And [livejournal.com profile] stars_like_dust is going to be visiting me here in Sydney tomorrow, which is very exciting.

- I need to post what I've done of the icon meme before my paid account expires. More to follow! )
fahye: ([fg] my apartment overlooks bondi)
ICON MEEEEEEME, oh my favourite of all the memes. I need to do it now because my extra userpics are about to run out.

So! Pick some of my icons (six, I think the number is?) and I'll talk about them. And then I'll pick some of yours for you to talk about. Or whatever.
fahye: ([hb] shine forth upon our clouded hills)
My LJ has gone through a palindromic journey: it started off as a strictly RL tool (pre-Facebook!) and then became a mostly fandom-based platform and now, it appears, all I do is talk about RL again. SORRY GUYS. My L is very R, these days.

So in the spirit of nostalgia, a meme! Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] liminalliz.

My username is: fahye - pronounced FAYE - commonly misspelled as 'fayhe'. I chose an LJ username on very short notice at the end of Year 10, when I had just watched Cowboy Bebop, and I basically threw an 'h' into Faye to make it more unique and so more suitable as an online handle. It's had good staying power; I'm known by it in fandom circles, I answer to it automatically in real life, and it's close enough to my real name that I can just sign all my emails 'F' without thinking about it.

My journal name is: La Fahyette, which is just different enough from fahye to not look totally stupid when set next to it, and is silly and punnish and...I like it.

My title is: broadcast me a joyful noise, which is from 'Bad Day' by R.E.M. I love the song and I love this lyric in particular, it's so strong and hopeful, and it's snuck into the middle of a chaotic chorus about counting your blessings even in the midst of a stressful life. WHICH IS RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS.

My subtitle is: ancient and naïve astronomies which is from Don DeLillo's Ratner's Star: 'a nullifying plunge through history's other end to all those ancient and naïve astronomies of bone and stone'.

My default userpic is:

[potc] under the windings of the sea
by spiffed_icon - 'do you think death could possibly be a boat?'

From PotC: At World's End, which I loved disproportionately to its actual worth as a film due to my obsession with concepts of death involving oceans and boats (see also: turn your sail). The keywords and comment are from two of my other favourite things to explore this concept: Dylan Thomas's poem 'And Death Shall Have No Dominion' and Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Plus, the icon is just gorgeous! Tilted horizon, pale sky, vivid sea, a silhouette and a sunrise.

This took a seriously stupid amount of time, and I had to abandon the idea of providing illustrative pictures for every answer. Dear self, stop posting memes and then running away and returning to an intimidating list; learn to tackle the questions one at a time as they appear.

I may have cheated slightly to avoid overlap and thus allow me to gush about more awesome fictional people. Win-win, right?

Yes yes yes I'm still doing the Top Fives one, but I'm down to the find-illustrative-pictures stage, so it'll be coming later today. And this one looks like insane amounts of fun.

1. Comment with any character you know I've written.
2. Receive three bits of trivia about their sexuality: practices, preferences, experiences, fantasies, kinks, etc.
3. Profit!
